About Us

GREETINGS!
This website has been designed for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

It will feature as part of our submittable project work for Global Literacies (1H, 2014), as part of our Master of Teaching degree. We were asked to create a multimodal resource for parents and families to use, that provides access to information and tips on how to create and maintain a literacy-enriched playing environment for young children.

OUR ‘CENTRE’ MISSION STATEMENT
At Global Wednesdays Childcare Centre we believe in the academic value of literacy-enriched dramatic play. We strive to integrate literacy into all areas of the centre including the dramatic play area, making it inclusive, age appropriate and avoiding gender bias. We consider every aspect of a child’s life to ensure that their world is represented in our dramatic play area at school to the best of our ability. We endeavour to represent different cultures, languages and lifestyles and welcome parental input in our program. As early childhood educators we understand the importance of early literacy and it’s affect on children later in life so we provide as many of these learning opportunities as we can in every part of our centre.

OUR ‘CENTRE’ POLICY
All staff should collect and buy things that would be relevant to any dramatic play theme.
The dramatic play area will change every month.
The theme will be decided on by children, staff and families together.
Children will be encouraged to engage in dramatic play every day with or without literacy activities.
There will be a selection of fiction and non-fiction books relating to the subject available exclusively in the dramatic play area
The theme will cater to both genders and different cultures.
There will ALWAYS be pens and paper available or some other form of writing materials (e.g. chalk/chalkboard or white board/pen).
There will always be print and images that support the dramatic play theme.
All literacy resources will be practical and not just thrown in.
Children will have the opportunity to explore different roles within each dramatic play theme.
Cultural themes will be explored on a regular basis, and will focus on the cultures of those at the centre.
